Product Details

Dating from the 1950s, this set of nine French linen tea towels feature a triple red stripe running along the length of both sides, and a cross-stitched monogram reading BS. These could also be used as serviettes. These are in unused condition - just with light marks from storage and folding.
French linen tea towels have a centuries-old history, originating from regions like Flanders and Normandy known for flax cultivation and weaving. Renowned for durability and absorbency, they gained popularity in the 19th century with industrialization.
Monograms on French textiles date back to the Middle Ages, symbolizing ownership and prestige. Evolving over time, they became intricate designs embroidered or woven onto linens. From the Renaissance to the present day, monogrammed textiles reflect social status and artistic expression, with French artisans excelling in craftsmanship. Today, monogramming remains a cherished tradition, adding a personal touch to tea towels, napkins, tablecloths, and bed linen.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
